Live interviews, step by step

A real-time interview assistant, one question at a time

“Real time” is an easy thing to claim. Instead, this page follows a single question through Interview Assistant, from the moment the interviewer starts speaking to the moment you can start answering, and points out each part you can adjust.

The path of a question

Five stages, all while the call carries on

  1. 1

    Listening

The app takes two audio sources: the call playing through your speakers or headset, and your microphone. Keeping them apart is how it tells the interviewer's voice from yours.

  2. 2

    Transcribing

Both streams go to Deepgram's Nova-3 speech model. Words show up in the transcript while the interviewer is still talking, and get corrected as more of the sentence comes in.

  3. 3

    Waiting for the end

The question counts as finished once the interviewer has been quiet for a set time, 2.5 seconds by default. Any speech, even an "um", restarts the count, so a pause mid-sentence doesn't cut the question in two.

  4. 4

    Asking

The interviewer's words go to the AI together with the resume and job description you saved. What you said yourself stays out of the request.

  5. 5

    Answering

The reply streams in word by word, so the first line is readable while the rest is still being written. Claude is the default model; GPT-4o and Groq can be chosen in Settings.

Your controls

Three ways to change the timing

Interviewers don't all speak the same way. These settings decide when the app treats a question as asked.

Change the pause

The silence slider in Settings goes from 1 to 10 seconds in half-second steps. Raise it for interviewers who think out loud; lower it for quick screening calls.

Hold to keep listening

For a long, several-part question, hold Right Ctrl and the app keeps gathering the question without answering until you let go. Settings offers other keys, including a mouse side button.

Skip the wait

Ctrl+Shift+A sends what has been said so far straight away. Handy when an interviewer trails off and never quite stops.

Answer length

Pick the length that fits the moment

Switch between the three at any point in the interview. The next answer uses the new one.

One line

A cue, not a script: the term, the figure or the approach to name. For topics you know and only need a way in.

A paragraph

A few sentences written to be said, which you can put in your own words. Suits "tell me about" and "walk me through".

Four bullets

Points to glance at and expand on in order. Useful for design questions and anything with several parts.
