Frequently Asked
Questions

How it works, what it costs, what you need to run it, and what leaves your computer.

01

What is Interview Assistant?

A Windows desktop app that helps you answer questions during a video interview. It transcribes the call in real time and writes a suggested answer in an overlay window on your screen. The window is marked as protected content in Windows, so it doesn't appear in screen share.

02

How does it work?

It reads the audio playing on your PC and transcribes both sides of the call, so it can tell your voice from the interviewer's. When the interviewer stops talking and a short pause confirms the question is finished, the question is sent to the AI along with your resume and the job description. The answer appears word by word as it's written. Only the interviewer's words are sent to the AI. Your own speech is transcribed so the app can separate the voices, and is never part of the question.

03

Does it show up when I share my screen?

No. The window is marked as protected content in Windows, which excludes it from screen capture at the operating-system level rather than relying on the meeting app. Before a real interview, you can check for yourself: start a meeting, share your screen, and look at the preview.

04

What does it cost?

Three plans, priced in rupees: Starter at ₹1,499 for 15 interviews total, Pro at ₹3,999 for unlimited interviews for 3 months, and Premium at ₹7,777 for unlimited interviews for 6 months. Nothing charges you automatically: when Pro or Premium ends you can renew it for another term at the same price, or not. Payment is through Razorpay — UPI, cards and net banking. Updates are included on every plan.

05

Can the meeting app detect it?

The exclusion happens in Windows, not in the meeting app, so there's nothing for the meeting app to detect in the frame it receives. We can't speak for every capture or monitoring tool that exists, and we'd encourage you to test your own setup before relying on it.

06

Which AI writes the answers?

Claude by Anthropic, by default — Claude Sonnet 5 writes the answers, and Claude Haiku 4.5 handles the optional one-line quick answer, which is off unless you turn it on. You can switch the provider to GPT-4o or Groq in Settings. Access is included in the price; there's no separate AI account or API key to set up.

07

Is there a subscription?

No. Nothing renews or charges you on its own. Starter is a one-time payment and never expires. Pro gives you unlimited interviews for 3 months from purchase, and Premium for 6 months; when either ends, you can renew it for another term from the app. Your licence key stays the same.

08

Can I use it from India?

Yes. Prices are in rupees and payment goes through Razorpay, which supports UPI, cards and net banking. Transcription is English-only. There's no geographic restriction.

09

What do I need to run it?

• Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit • An internet connection — transcription and answers both happen online • The interview running on the same PC, since the app reads that machine's audio • A working microphone, so it can tell the voices apart The installer is around 80 MB. There's no macOS or Linux version.

10

How fast does an answer appear?

The app waits for a short pause before sending the question, to be sure the interviewer has finished. That pause is adjustable in Settings. After that, the answer starts appearing within a few seconds and streams in word by word, so you can begin speaking before it's finished.

11

What kinds of interview does it handle?

Coding rounds, system design, behavioural questions, case studies, product and sales interviews, online assessments and panel interviews. The three answer formats — one line, a short paragraph, or four bullets — let you match the format to the kind of question being asked.

12

What's the difference between the plans?

Starter covers 15 interviews and never expires. Pro is unlimited for 3 months and Premium is unlimited for 6 months; you can renew either. All three include the same features: real-time transcription, the overlay, all three answer formats, resume-aware answers, and every future update. Each licence works on one device.

13

Does it work with Zoom, Teams and Meet?

Yes, and with anything else that plays audio on your PC — Webex, Slack huddles, Discord. It reads system audio rather than integrating with any specific app, so the meeting platform doesn't matter.

14

How do I set it up?

Download the installer and run it on Windows 10 or 11. Open the app and enter the licence key emailed to you after purchase. Fill in your profile — role, experience, resume and the job description — in Settings. Press play when your interview starts. If the app doesn't pick up a question automatically, Ctrl+Shift+A triggers an answer manually.

15

Is using an AI interview assistant ethical or cheating?

The ethical status depends on the policies of the specific employer and the type of interview. Use of AI assistance during interviews is not addressed in most standard candidate agreements and is not universally prohibited. Some employers explicitly forbid it for proctored assessments; others do not address it. Candidates should review any agreements signed and consider the conventions of the role they are interviewing for. Interview Assistant's Terms of Use restrict the product to practice and personal preparation; users are responsible for compliance with the policies of the assessing organization.
